If Mrs. Endelman is not busy in her classroom, she is more than likely with her family cheering on her favorite sports teams: NORTH BUTLER BEARCATS, Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Vikings, and the Chicago Bulls!
5th Grade Math: Your child will explore, learn and practice mathematics in a range of settings including whole class, small groups, partners and individually. They will learn to work cooperatively and independently as they solve problems based on real-life situations.
Math grades are on a weighted system. They will be broken down into 3 categories: Journal/Study Link Assignments (20%), Math Box Worksheets (35%), and Quizzes/Tests (45%).
5th Grade Social Studies: We are Busy, Busy, Busy ! In fifth grade, the major focus of the Social Studies curriculum deals with the history of our country, the United States. The students will begin the year studying geographical concepts to gain a better understanding of the physical features of our country. Following the geography unit, we will dive into a study of Native Americans, the earliest inhabitants of our country. From there, we will continue to progress through the development of our country, touching on European exploration and emphasizing the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. During the year, the students will be working on a variety of projects, many of which incorporate technology, writing, and oral/speaking skills. We allow them to critically explore their own views about history and the current society in which we live.
Throughout the year we occasionally step away from the American History textbooks and take a closer look at the State of Iowa. We study the landscape and people during the different time periods of American History. We learn the significant role the Mississippi River played in the development of our state. As a culminating activity for our Iowa History studies, we take a field trip to the Mississippi River Museum in Dubuque in May.
Social Studies is a weighted grade. The grade is broken down into 3 categories: Daily Assignments (20%), Quizzes/Projects (30%), and Unit Tests (50%)
DARE: DARE class meets once a week, beginning after Labor Day until the end of November. DARE class take place during the social studies class period. Deputy Mike Lammers will be our DARE instructor. This is always a highlight of our week!
